City of Madras gets $300,000 sidewalk grant Seventh Street by Madras Elementary to see improvements through Safe Routes to School The walk to Madras Elementary will soon be safer, thanks to a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation. The grant is part of a program called Safe Routes to Schools. With $300,000 from Oregon Department of Transportation, the City of Madras will work on both sides of a two-block section of sidewalk on Seventh Street from B Street to D Street. I m always excited when we re able to get a grant to fix another piece, says Director of Madras Public Works Jeff Hurd.
