How Dale Earnhardt Helped Brett Bodine Capture His Only NASCAR Cup Victory
Bodine s 1990 victory at North Wilkesboro not without a little controversy.

Brett Bodine’s only NASCAR Cup Series victory came in large part thanks to help from Dale Earnhardt during the April 1990 First Union 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Granted, it’s possible the middle of the racing Bodine brothers might have won, anyway, but Earnhardt’s unwitting help shouldn’t be dismissed. It happened like this:
Earnhardt passed Bodine for the lead with about 150 laps remaining in the 400-lapper. From that position, Bodine watched as Earnhardt took an unorthodox line into Turn 1 at the 5/8th-mile track. (The long-closed facility went dramatically downhill into Turns 1-2, then uphill into Turns 3-4). Bodine was better than Earnhardt in 3-4, but significantly worse in 1-2. ST MATTHEWS, S.C. He did an amazing job, just an amazing job, firefighter Jeff Hammond said as he spoke about a fire at an assisted living facility in St. Matthews and a volunteer firefighter who rescued two residents.
Affectionately called Shack, Suguan Benjamin happened to be in St. Matthews on Tuesday when an assisted living facility caught on fire. Benjamin is a volunteer firefighter in St. Matthews but works for the City of Columbia s Water Department.

It all started when Keith Martin’s grandfather opened a taxi service on the first block of Rehoboth Avenue where Snyder’s Candy is now. As the go-to chauffer for visiting notables and glitterati from Washington, D.C. and New York City, he quickly discovered that he needed a spot where he could work on his vehicles. So he opened a little gas station at the corner of Rehoboth and Lake avenues. Back in the day, that was one of five gas stations that graced downtown Rehoboth Beach.
