Jeff Gilliland | The Times-Gazette On a night when the Hillsboro City Schools Summer Meals Program received an award for its outstanding service from the Childrens Hunger Alliance, food service director Jessica Walker announced that the program plans to add a second vehicle and nine new stops on its routes this summer. The new vehicle will be a refashioned bus call the Juice Box. “We think we have a really good lineup and the Juice Box is going to get us to people we didn’t get to before,” Walker said at Monday’s Hillsboro Board of Education meeting.

Air compressor brings firemen to Computer Forms By Jeff Gilliland - jgilliland@timesgazette.com An air compressor that locked up, created a lot of smoke, and set off a sprinkler system brought four fire departments to Highland County Computer Forms on the west side of Hillsboro early Wednesday morning. Paint Creek EMS/Fire District Lt. Branden Jackman said the district received a call reporting smoke in the building at 1025 W. Main St. (U.S. Route 50) at 6:15 a.m. Jackman said that upon arrival firefighters found smoke pushing from the roof of the structure. He said at that point firefighters were not exactly sure what the situation was, but were aware the building’s sprinkler system had been activated, so they upgraded the alarm to an active structure fire.

Wilson Mowrystown American Legion Post 694, Teddy Ruble said the day was not about him. “It’s not my day, it’s the Lord’s day,” said Ruble, a 1964 Whiteoak High School graduate and current Hillsboro resident. “I’m a Christian, and you can tell anybody that I’m a Christian.”

Suspect nabbed after pursuit By Jeff Gilliland - jgilliland@timesgazette.com Gammoh A Middletown man who authorities believe used a vehicle to ram a Hillsboro business entrance and steal a lottery machine last weekend was apprehended after he crashed his vehicle Tuesday while being pursued by law enforcement. Michael Gammoh, 29, who has a Middletown address but also has a criminal record in Hillsboro Municipal Court dating back to 1999, was captured when his vehicle crashed into a ditch on Fairview/Lapparell Road in Pike County. Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said that at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday his office received a call from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office advising that the Peebles Police Department was in pursuit of a black Mitsubishi Eclipse, with the driver believed to be wanted by the Hillsboro Police Department for a break-in at the East Main Sunoco in Hillsboro last Saturday.

Behind them is council president Tom Eichinger. Concerns about the new digital sign at the Colony Park, and vandalism throughout the city, were voiced at Monday’s Hillsboro City Council meeting. Council member Ann Morris said that after reviewing the minutes of past council meetings, council never approved the digital sign. In a prepared statement that she shared with The Times-Gazette, Morris said that according to minutes from a Nov. 9 council meeting, council passed a resolution to allocate Cares Act funds to the city’s general fund, with more information to follow later.
