A Hillsboro man is facing an abduction charge after allegedly stealing a car in Lynchburg with a small child inside Monday afternoon.
Neal N. McKenzie, 41, was charged with abduction, and further charges from the incident will be presented to an upcoming session of a Highland County grad jury, Lynchburg Police Chief Richard Warner said.
Warner said the Lynchburg Police Department received a call at 12:55 p.m. Monday reporting that a car had been stolen by McKenzie from a location on Broadway Street with a 2-year-old infant inside the vehicle in a car seat. Warner said the vehicle belonged to the child’s mother.

FRS Transportation hopes to have public transit routes back up and running in May, representatives said at Monday’s Hillsboro City Council meeting.
Damon Lucas, FRS Transportation director, said public transportation routes originated last March, but lasted just three weeks before they were shut down by COVID-19.
When the routes are re-established, Lucas said there will be two loops around Hillsboro running in opposite directions, Monday through Friday to begin with, and one loop in Greenfield. In Hillsboro, he said, there will be 21 stops starting at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center on Muntz Street.

It is nearing that time of year when, years ago, my parents would load their children in a vehicle and head south. Well, not always south, but more often than not, and usually during our Easter break from school. The usual destination was the Tampa, Florida area, and if that is where we were headed, it was always on Easter break.
For a time in the 1950s my Dad attended a small school called Florida College. It is in Temple Terrace, near Tampa, and I suppose that when he had about as much of winter as he could take, the sunny south called to him.
