Perseus Mining Limited(ASX: PRU) today announced it will welcome Amber Banfield to the role of non-executive director, starting tomorrow. Banfield’s appointment means 28.5% of those on the gold mining company’s board will now be women. While that’s still a way off the leaders of gender equality among ASX 200 companies – 110 have more than 30% female board memberships – it’s a positive step for the company.

In terms of gender balance, two of Perseus’ directors are women representing approximately 30% of directors. The board of Perseus will comprise seven directors, six of whom will be non-executive directors. Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU) (TSX:PRU) (OTCMKTS:PMNXF) (FRA:P4Q) has strengthened its board of directors while simultaneously improving gender diversity with the appointment of Amber Banfield as a non-executive director with effect from May 12. Banfield holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental and Civil) degree and a Master of Business Administration, both from the University of Western Australia. With her appointment, the board of Perseus will comprise seven directors, six of whom will be non-executive directors.

Perseus Mining Limited has released its year 2020 CY20 Sustainable Development Report. The report details the company’s progress over the past 12 months in delivering on its commitment to responsible mining operations in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, including an overall economic benefit to host countries totalling about USD$385M. It further said as part of its longstanding commitment to the communities in which it operates, it recorded increasing community investment by 71% to around US$1.9M in CY20, funding critical health and education infrastructure projects for local communities. Additionally, Perseus announced it had increased its proportion of local procurement from 66% in CY19 to 78% in CY20, totalling US$287M, and further expanded its employment of local populations, with 96% of its current workforce local to Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
