Columbia Public Schools projected to spend $4 6 million more than it s bringing in during the 2021-22 school year

ABC17 News COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) Columbia Public Schools is holding a public hearing for its 2021-22 school year budget on Wednesday. Meeting documents project the district will spend nearly $4.6 million more than it will bring in. The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Aslin Administration Building. Chief Financial Officer Heather McArthur will review the budget for the school year and members of the community will be able to ask questions or comment after the presentation. Ahead of the meeting, the district s documents show that in total revenues with local, intermediate, state, federal and other, the district is estimated to bring in $248,404,158. The estimated total expenditures for salaries, benefits, service/supply, and transfers out is at $253,002,443 meaning the district would spend close to $4.6 million more than it is bringing in.

Food truck event planned in celebration of mural at Robinhood Plaza in Winston-Salem

Mural by artist Laura Lashley is part of new features at Robinhood Plaza in Winston-Salem Artist Laura Lashley created the 70-foot by 16-foot mural on the east end of the shopping center, at the corner of Robinhood and Peace Haven roads. The mural is part of an “ongoing repositioning” of the shopping center by its owner, Mary Lois Properties LLC, and includes a newly-created event plaza in the parking lot with string lights, landscaped planters and seating. A celebration of the completion of the mural will feature a food truck event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 12 that will include Pacific Rim Food Truck, Sliders Street Food, Food Freaks of NC and Urban Street Grill.

Matteson hired as Jefferson Middle School principal

JEFFERSON Michael Matteson, current assistant principal at Marshall Middle School in Janesville, gained the approval of the Jefferson school board Monday to assume the Jefferson Middle School principal position being vacated by Nick Skretta. Skretta will be stepping into the Jefferson High School principal position in June after the retirement of Steve Dinkel. The new middle school principal’s contract was approved during the closed session portion of the school board meeting Monday. Matteson, who lives in Whitewater, received his master’s degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University in 2011. He received his bachelor of science degree from UW-Whitewater in 2001.
