Paw Fest draws dozens for celebration of pets MT. VERNON, IL (WSIL) After putting the event on pause last year because of the pandemic, Mt. Vernon s annual Paw Fest returned to Veterans Memorial Park Sunday. This is the fourth year for the event on its own. It outgrew its original place as part of the City s Fall Fest. Dozens were out enjoying vendors with pet-centric toys and supplies; food vendors, contests, demonstrations and even a moment of prayer with a Blessing of the Pets. Festival director Angela Schrum says proceeds from contest and donations from Paw Fest help to find some furry friends their fur-ever homes.
