Woman killed in apartment fire on Birmingham’s Southside

Authorities have not yet identified a woman killed in a fire Saturday night on Birmingham’s Southside.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday said the fatality victim was an adult white female. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:49 p.m.
The blaze broke out about 10:45 p.m. at 33rd Street South and Highland Avenue. Authorities said three people had to be rescued from the fire but were uninjured. A Birmingham firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Suspect charged with murder in deadly shooting at Center Point Parkway convenience store

A suspect is behind bars in a deadly weekend shooting at an eastern Jefferson County store.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the slain man as DeAndre Antone Carter. He was 30 and lived in Birmingham.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 10 p.m. Saturday to A & A Convenience Store on Center Point Parkway on a report of a person shot. They arrived to find the 30-year-old victim suffering from a single gunshot wound, said Sgt. Joni Money.
The man was still breathing, and deputies took measures to save his life until he could be transported to UAB Hospital, Money said. However, Carter was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:14 p.m.
27-year-old ID’d as man gunned down in east Birmingham car wash parking lot

Authorities have released the name of a man killed when someone opened fire on his car in east Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the victim as Detraio Deshawn Whorton. He was 27 and lived in Birmingham.
Birmingham police received a 911 call at 5:11 p.m. Thursday reporting a man had been shot in his vehicle. When they arrived at the location - a parking lot in the 8600 block of First Avenue North - they found Whorton suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the neck.
61-year-old woman ID’d as pedestrian hit and killed on Birmingham street

Authorities have released the name of a woman killed last week while she was trying to cross a Birmingham street.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the woman as Felicia Renee Richardson. She was 61 and lived in Birmingham.
The crash happened at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 68th Street and First Avenue North. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:45 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Friday identified the child as Major Turner. He was 2.
The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday in the Kimbrough Homes public housing complex in the Wenonah Community. Sgt. Rod Mauldin said police were notified of a double shooting in the 2900 block of John Bryant Road. They arrived to find the mother and Major wounded.
Police radio traffic indicated the child was struck in the neck and taken to Children’s of Alabama with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m.
