Jefferson County commissioners signed a letter asking Oregon Gov. Kate Brown to allow communities to reopen commerce in a safe manner.
The commission based their letter on the letter the City of Redmond sent to Brown.
This is the Jan. 27 letter commissioners signed:
Dear Governor Brown;
On behalf of the many small and locally owned businesses in Jefferson County, we request the same reopening consideration you have granted our school districts, which would allow communities to reopen commerce in a safe manner, following CDC guidelines.

STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Commissioners again had a discussion about the Smithfield sewer system and the Environmental Protection Agency’s concerns with plans to upgrade the plant.
The topic has been a recurring matter of discussion as the county reviews options for the troubled system.
The county, which has taken over the water system in Smithfield, is operating the sewer system but does not own the plant, which currently is owned by Smithfield Township.
Hindering the start of a complete takeover and more than $3 million project to revamp the system are what the commissioners and water and sewer Director Michael Eroshevich say is a moving goal post from the EPA on ammonia levels.

STEUBENVILLE The Jefferson County Commissioners have been named the recipients of the 2020 Distinguished Service Award presented by the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District Board.
“Each year and for over 40 years the district has taken the opportunity to acknowledge an outstanding friend or friends who shares the district’s mission to promote conservation of our lands and waters,” said Duayne Wetherell, JSWCD public relations chairman.
The award celebrates leaders whose achievements have resulted in significant impact in the county. These accomplishments have been realized during a sustained period of time in the field of conservation in partnership with the district, officials said former Commissioner Tom Gentile and Commissioners Thomas Graham and Dave Maple.

GOLDEN, Colo. â Jefferson County Commissioners met in emergency session Wednesday to apply for a 5 Star certified business variance to help restaurants struggling during the pandemic.
The county remains at Level Red on the state s COVID-19 dial, meaning there is a severe risk.
For restaurants, that means no indoor dining. Groups that are part of the same household can sit out on the patio.

STEUBENVILLE A dispute over a road use maintenance agreement between the Jefferson County Engineer’s Office and Ascent Resources came before the Jefferson County Commissioners Thursday morning and was not resolved.
The commissioners heard from representatives from both parties through a Zoom teleconference that lasted roughly 30 minutes and at times got testy, ending abruptly due to an Internet connection issue.
Ascent is working at two sites in Wells Township located off of township Road 156 that share a driveway.
