The former Swindon mayor is standing for the job of setting policy and budgets and overseeing the work of Wiltshire Police – in a county where every other elected politician or authority is a Conservative. He represents Central ward on Swindon Borough Council – one of the most urban areas in the county – and needs to pick up votes from rural areas and small and medium-sized towns if he is to win. But the 47-year-old businessman says his experience as a councillor and especially as mayor in 2018-19 stands him in good stead.

Police & Crime Commissioner hopeful Liz Webster The experience of being a victim of a serious crime fired Liz Webster’s desire to be the next police and crime commissioner for Swindon and Wiltshire. The 57-year-old is the mum of Harry Webster who suffered a horrendous hammer attack when he was a pupil at Ridgeway School in 2007. Now the Liberal Democrat candidate for the job of setting policy and budgets for Wiltshire Police has said that was where she started seeing what could be improved. “It was a hugely difficult time. My son was fighting for his life and it felt like I was along and there was nobody to hear what I had to say,” she said.
