Junab Ali knows he might be up against it as Labour’s candidate in this year’s Police and Crime Commissioner election.
The former Swindon mayor is standing for the job of setting policy and budgets and overseeing the work of Wiltshire Police – in a county where every other elected politician or authority is a Conservative.
He represents Central ward on Swindon Borough Council – one of the most urban areas in the county – and needs to pick up votes from rural areas and small and medium-sized towns if he is to win.
But the 47-year-old businessman says his experience as a councillor and especially as mayor in 2018-19 stands him in good stead.
