With 11 houses in the pipeline for Freeport and South Portland, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland announced its selection of a new executive director who said she plans to accelerate the nonprofit s home-building work.
“The organization is poised to really develop its vision and build on the tremendous momentum of recent years,” Tara Hill said in a news release. “I look forward to being a part of the effort to bring Habitat to the next level, making a positive difference for those in need of safe and affordable homes.”
Hill succeeds Interim Executive Director John Shumadine. Her past experience includes serving as the executive director of Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine and Maine Cancer Foundation. Most recently, she was the director of community development at Town & Country Federal Credit Union.

Nurses greeted patients at the front of the clinic to take their temperature and asked if they had been exposed. There was a hand-washing station. Patients were safely distanced in the waiting room. Hand sanitizer and masks were readily available.
Sanford Health s clinics in Ghana looked and operated like those in the U.S. But the surrounding communities lacked reliable internet service, a consistent vaccine supply and adequate distribution channels, said Tracy Bieber, director of clinical services for Sanford World Clinics, who just returned from Ghana Sunday. Telemedicine hasn t taken off like in New Zealand or the States because when you get into rural areas, they don t have very reliable internet, she said, adding that some of the clinics experience down time when connections intermittently drop. That s been a big hindrance.

Despite rain in the forecast the forest fire hazard is still high to extreme Wednesday across the region.
There were 14 new starts Tuesday with more reports being investigated.
A blaze 46 kilometres north of Sioux Lookout is listed as not under control at 50 hectares in size, while another out of control fire is near Long Legged Lake, about 41 kilometres southwest of Red Lake.
The largest fire in the district is 52 kilometres north of Kenora at 2,600 hectares.
Crews are setting up sprinklers to protect nearby camps, cottages and homes.
Kenora Fire 25 is listed as not control and is currently 300 hectares in size.
