Essential Quality wore down pacesetter Hot Rod Charlie in the stretch and crossed the finish line first in the Belmont Stakes.

In April, the South Hadley Select Board had to quickly regroup.
As officials prepared to conduct final interviews in the search for the community’s next town administrator, three of the four selected finalists withdrew their candidacy, abruptly derailing a process more than a year in the making. And the town, facing the looming June 30 retirement of its current administrator, had no choice but to relaunch the search.
Though the situation might seem unique, other small Massachusetts communities have also struggled to hire top executives in recent years, whether because of too few qualified applicants or finalists who opt for more attractive positions elsewhere.
Hikers catching the view from Indian Head in the Adirondacks come with packs, water, good boots and a new must-have item: advanced reservations at the privately owned Adirondack Mountain Reserve.
Auburn
Saturday: At noon, the American Legion Post and the Chester P. Tuttle Post 279, escorted by the Auburn Police Department., will conduct a salute at all 13 veterans squares in town, starting with the first salute and wreath placement at Tuttle Square.
894 flags were put in the cemeteries on all of the grave markers for their fallen veterans.
There will be no parade and events on Sunday and Monday, said Town Manager Julie Jacobson.
“The parade and other events had been cancelled due to COVID restrictions, so even with the changes announced last week by the state, it was too late to plan any additional events,” Jacobson said.
