(WBRC) - “No more limitations” says Anissa Gunn. “I’m finally free”. The Miles College student and football team equipment manager is a participant in a clinical trial that some believe has the potential to cure Sickle Cell Disease. Last summer, Gunn had her stem cells harvested, then underwent chemotherapy to prepare for the reintroduction of those stem cells under the care of Dr. Julie Kanter, Director of UAB’s Comprehensive Sickle Cell Clinic.
