A shared zone for pedestrians and cars travelling through the middle of a hinterland town has been floated as a potential solution to its current traffic problems. The suggestion comes as Palmwoods residents plead with the State Government to urgently upgrade several of the town s intersections and slow the flow of traffic before someone is killed . The areas residents regard in most need of improvements include: The intersection of Woombye Palmwoods and Chevallum roads and Jubilee Drive under the railway bridge; The Churchill Street and Palmwoods Montville Road intersection; and The Dunning Street and Palmwoods-Montville Road intersection As well as the speed drivers travel throughout the town.

University of Sunshine Coast research associate Levi Anderson said safer signage and reducing speed - not speed bumps - around the rail bridge intersection could solve the town s traffic woes. (With) speed bumps, while they will slow down drivers momentarily, if drivers are in a hurry they re going to increase their speed immediately afterwards, he said. (This) makes larger infrastructure investments like traffic lights with passenger crossing or a zebra crossing going to be more productive.
