Kodiak High School students, teachers, parents and administrators gathered in the schoolâs gym on Tuesday night to give out academic awards for the year. Each department chose one student from each grade for their excellent performance during the school year.Â
Recipients included Jackson Roberts (top), pictured standing as Kodiak High School Counselor Jenna Wagner reads his accomplishments; Abigail Pruitt (top left), seen walking in front of applauding board of education members Julie Hill and Judy Carstens; and Shalliah Capili (bottom left), receiving her award from Kodiak High School Counselor Jason Fox. Â
Kodiak schools will start in August this fall, after the Board of Education approved a calendar for the 2021-22 academic year at a meeting on Monday.Â
Studentsâ first day of school will be Aug. 30. Their last day will be May 26 before the Crab Festival.Â
Winter holidays will run from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3. Spring break will be between March 13 and 19.Â
The district was considering two different schedules: one that started in August and let out in May, and another that started in September and let out in June.Â
The district put together a survey for parents and got 222 responses. Those answers tended toward what the board eventually approved.Â
