While it is common knowledge that Jurong Island (off the southwestern coast of Singapore) is a manmade island that forms the heart of Singapore’s chemical and energy industry, and serves as the operational headquarters for leading petroleum and petrochemical companies, not many of us know about the canine population there.
Yes, there are dogs living on Jurong Island! In fact, the island is currently home to about 150 of them.
Interestingly, 80 per cent of the dogs on the island are black, and because of superstitious beliefs, many consider such dogs as evil and aggressive - which couldn t be further from the truth (see adoption profiles below).

In an ambitious land reclamation project that was officially completed in 2009, Singapore has connected seven of its islands to form Jurong Island. The island has a land mass of some 3,000ha and, according to Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB), hosts more than 95 companies from the US, Europe and Asia.
Land of Leatheries: Terumbu Pempang Tengah
Huge leathery soft corals colonies of various shapes and colours crowd the southern part of Terumbu Pempang Tengah! Even though this submerged reef lies near Jurong Island and major shipping lanes.
Today, I also came across two Fluted giant clams, and I didn t see any mass coral bleaching. Kok Sheng surveyed a reefy part of the shore and saw a wide variety of healthy corals.
There have always been a wide variety of Leathery soft corals on the shore. Some resemble fried omelette, others look like discarded gloves.
Each is a colony is made up of countless tiny polyps that look like tiny flowers. The polyps are embedded in a shared common tissue that is hard and stiff. When the polyps are retracted, the common tissue appears smooth.

Total supplies solar to Singapore LNG terminal
Total has started providing solar power to the Singapore LNG terminal, which is operated by Singapore LNG Corp (SLNG), the French major said on April 29.
The 600-kW photovoltaic system is mounted onto the roofs of the terminal s buildings and is expected to produce 800 MWh/year of power, which is the equivalent of the electricity needs of around 200 households in Singapore, Total said. The system has the potential to avoid 300 metric tons/year of CO

Oil prices edged higher on Tuesday as OPEC, Russia and their allies agreed to stick to plans to raise output slightly from May 1, suggesting they don t see a lasting impact on demand from India s coronavirus crisis.
OPEC+, as the producer group is known, has also ditched plans to hold a full ministerial meeting on Wednesday, sources said. A technical meeting on Monday had voiced concern about surging COVID-19 cases but kept its oil demand forecast unchanged.
