Times are tougher than ever before. Staff are ending shifts in tears as they tackle the worst surge of Covid-19 yet and representatives from the profession are concerned that physical and mental exhaustion are taking their toll.
While
Nursing Times is, unfortunately, used to covering year-round nurse staffing pressures and winter crises, the current situation feels markedly different and frightening.
This month has already seen warnings that services could be overwhelmed in a just matter of weeks unless Covid-19 cases begin to fall.

“Everything that could have gone wrong in that process went wrong,” Pardi said. “We pulled an all-nighter to get everything fixed and ready to go. The next day, we were so delusionally tired. We ended up falling asleep on our couch at work for like an hour and woke up to all this support. My phone was blowing up.”
