A SPECIAL lockdown wedding saw a pair of sweethearts to finally tie the knot – a quarter of a century after the question was popped. Peter Smirles, 85, asked for Jean Robson s hand in marriage 25 years ago and they are now husband and wife at last after an intimate, ceremony at a Purton care home. The couple were advised to get hitched as soon as possible by a doctor when Peter s health began to deteriorate just after Christmas. Amy Thorne, manager of The Cedars, worked with Wiltshire’s superintendent registrar Sarah Bradley to secured a special licence so the wedding could take place at the home.
