GEORGE TOWN: A Korean priest, who is deaf and mute, pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of molesting a disabled man 20 years ago. Jee Jon Hoon, 55, made the plea after the charge was read out to him by a Korean interpreter and international sign interpreter before Magistrate Rosnee Mohd Ridzuan. The accused was alleged to have committed the act including hugging and kissing the then 30-year-old victim at a house in Gelugor in 2000. He was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, if convicted.

BUTTERWORTH: The court proceedings of a South Korean pastor accused of outraging the modesty of two men was delayed as he could not understand the charges read to him. Jee Jon Hoon, 54, who is speech– and hearing-impaired and facing two counts of outraging the modesty of two men, failed to respond when the charges were read out to him and no plea was recorded yesterday. The case has now been adjourned to Jan 18 for an international sign language interpreter to be present to read the charges to him. According to the charge, Jee is alleged to have molested a man, then 21, at 12.20am in a room at Jee’s apartment in Kampung Paya in Butterworth on Oct 13,2013.

However, no plea was recorded from Jee Jon Hoon, 55, as Magistrate M.Kalaiarasi postponed the case to Jan 18 for mention for the court to get a Korean and international sign language interpreter. Jee was charged with using criminal force on the two victims, aged 26 and 27, and are also deaf-mute, with intent to outrage their modesty at an apartment in Kampung Paya here at 12.20am in October 2013 and between 11pm and 1 am in July 2017, respectively.
