Maybe because they are denizens of the morning, generally, among the first foodstuffs we confront in that awkward hour between sleep and work. Maybe because English muffins are humble, stolid, reliable. And therefore unsung. Chicagoans can prattle on about pizza, harangue endlessly over hot dogs, even occasionally acknowledge Chicago is, or was, the center of the candy universe, turning out everything from Baby Ruth bars to Lemonheads. But English muffins are denied their due. Opinion I’ve just searched the Sun-Times back to 1948, the Tribune and Daily News even further, and found only a handful of stories mentioning that George Bay set to baking his grandmother’s English muffin recipe here in 1933, delivering his circular delights in paper bags to Loop hotels and restaurants.

Sadruddin Twins Sentenced To 50 Months In Federal Prison For Pikeville Textile Plant, Tarp Frauds Friday, May 7, 2021 Twin brothers Rahim and Karim Sadruddin, 35, were sentenced on Friday to 50 months in federal prison for a fraud involving a touted textile plant for Pikeville that never opened and a scheme selling tarps to the government. They appeared before Judge Travis McDonough. As part of the plea agreement filed with the court, the Sadruddins each agreed to plead guilty to an Information charging them with two counts of wire fraud involving a Presidentially declared major disaster and emergency in violation of a section of federal law and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce presents the first Professional Women’s Luncheon on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. The event will be held at Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 – 1 pm.
