On Thursday night, the Penns Manor School Board approved a new board member to take the place of Robert Packer, who resigned last month.
By a unanimous vote, Lisa Smiley was appointed to represent Region 1-Clymer. Board president John Hardesty said that Smiley will be provided with everything she will need to be a part of the school board.
Her term will run until December 6th, the first Monday in December after the next school board election.
The board also formally elected Jill Eckenrode as the new board Vice President and accepted her resignation as the board treasurer. The board also appointed Deborah Tate to take over the treasurer duties.

On Thursday night, the Penns Manor School Board accepted the resignation of their board president.
Robert Packer was not present at the meeting, but his letter was submitted prior to the start of the board meeting. Packer is moving from Clymer to Cherryhill Township, and while that is still in the district, District Superintendent Daren Johnston said that Packer is following school board protocol.
Packer plans to run for the school board in the next election.
Board vice president John Hardesty was elected as the new board president over Ron Larch by a 6-2 vote. Jill Eckenrode was elected over Larch by a 6-2 vote to be the new board vice president. To fill Packer’s seat for Clymer Region 1, the board can elect someone to fill that position. The board has 30 days to fill the vacancy before a citizen can petition the court. Applications are due on March 31st and a new board member will be selected at their April 8
