The National Writers Series is making sure you don’t write them off this year.
After more than a year of online sessions and not being able to meet in person, they’re ready to go back to the City Opera House.
The National Writers Series brings successful authors to the Traverse City area to engage readers, and they’re excited to be back together again soon.
The first in-person guest will be John U. Bacon, author of the New York Times bestseller “Let Them Lead.”
“A lot has gone into the planning and the safety of all this and we’re just so happy to be back in our home, to be back downtown; but mainly to be able to bring you those authors up close and personal on stage so you can see them and connect with them and feel friends come together again at the City Opera House,” said National Writers Series Executive Director Jillian Manning.

As the summer tourism season gets underway, Cape Cod Coffee is expanding to a seasonal location in the Popponesset Marketplace in Mashpee.
Starting Memorial Day weekend, the local coffee roasters will be serving up hot coffee, espresso, cold brew, sandwiches and salads to residents and visitors in the New Seabury area.
âWeâre hoping to do at this location what weâve done at the other locations: quality food, quality coffee, quality service,â said Jillian Manning, Cape Cod Coffeeâs marketing director. âWe really try to customize the coffee experience for people.â
Cape Cod Coffee last year opened a new roasting facility on Evergreen Circle and also operates a café and restaurant in Mashpee Commons. The new seasonal location at Popponesset will be open weekends only until June and aims to remain open until Columbus Day, Ms. Manning said.
There are some holidays so closely associated with certain foods that only a particular dish will do. So it goes with St. Patrick’s Day, and corned beef and cabbage.
Other Irish dishes are top choices, too, of course. Local owners and managers at restaurants with an Irish theme mention that diners at the restaurants or for takeout can also get other favorites for St. Patrick’s Day week or every day. Some offer a beef or lamb stew, Shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, corned-beef hash, blood sausage. etc.
It’s the corned beef and cabbage, though, that gets added to some menus for March 17 and before, and the Irish dish that gets asked for most often around the holiday.
