GIRARD John F. “Jack” Licek, 63, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 4, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Youngstown following a battle with COVID-19.
Jack was born March 5, 1957, in Youngstown, a son of the late John and Ruth Bowles Licek, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1975 graduate of Girard High School and worked as a saw operator for Polaris Window and Door for 38 years.
Jack was of the Catholic faith.
Jack was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and NASCAR. He enjoyed playing slot machines and visiting casinos, and he liked scratch-off lottery tickets. Most of all, John enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.

ANDOVER Rita M. Martin, 70, formerly of Girard, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 11, 2020, at Andover Village, following a lengthy illness.
Rita was born Nov. 14, 1950, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Jennie Ann DePinto Funge, and lived in the area for most of her life.
She was a 1969 graduate of Girard High School and briefly worked for EASCO Aluminum in Girard.
She was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a person who enjoyed good food. Rita also enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, visiting casinos and visits with her “granddogs,” Mason and Bayleigh.
Rita was of the Catholic faith.
GINGERBREAD CONTEST: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles is hosting a virtual gingerbread house contest.
Entrants can create their own house or pick up a kit from the library’s curbside service. Entries will be emailed to mckinley@mcklib.org. Categories are 17 and younger and 18 and older.
On Monday, entries will be posted to the library’s Facebook page where every “like” counts a s a vote until Dec. 20. On Dec. 21. winners in each age group will receive a gift card.
