Buckley man tentatively scheduled for August trial on murder charges

CADILLAC — A 57-year-old Buckley man is tentatively scheduled to stand trial on a murder charge in August. Alex Keith Mesler is tentatively scheduled to begin his five-day trial in Wexford County’s 28th Circuit Court on Aug. 24 but has a final pretrial scheduled on Aug. 6. If the Aug. 24 date remains, the trial is scheduled to occur on Aug. 24 through Aug. 26 and resume on Aug. 31 and conclude on Sept. 1, according to 28th Circuit Court. Mesler was charged with one count of first-degree murder for his connection with an incident on June 29, 2020, in Buckley. A habitual offender fourth offense notice also was added to the charge. If convicted, Mesler faces a potential life sentence with no chance of parole.

Lake City man convicted by jury on 4 CSC offenses

LAKE CITY — It took a jury roughly four hours to convict a 31-year-old Lake City man of four criminal sexual conduct offenses during a three-day trial in Missaukee County’s 28th Circuit Court. Jake Leon Jacobson was found guilty of four counts of second-degree CSC person under 13 for his connection with incidents occurring on or between the dates of April 29, 2017, and April 29, 2019, in Reeder Township. He also was found not guilty of the three remaining counts of second-degree CSC and five counts of first-degree CSC person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older. He faces up to 15 years in prison at sentencing, which should occur within the next month. He originally faced a potential life sentence on each of the first-degree CSC offenses.
