Painstaking work restores historic Bembridge Windmill | Isle of Wight County Press

THE last surviving windmill on the Isle of Wight has been restored by the National Trust to its appearance when it was famously captured in watercolour by the artist JMW Turner. New sweeps and stocks the timber frame and beams that make up each sail have replaced a set removed more than two years ago because the wood was beginning to decay. Bembridge Windmill, which was immortalised in a watercolour painting by JMW Turner, was built in the 1700s. It was in action for more than 200 years and later used as a Home Guard headquarters during World War Two.
