For the first post on the site in 2021, check out the new year’s links below: Missing players and coaches due to Covid, everything went wrong for San Jose State in the first half. They regrouped a bit in the second half but the damage was done. It doesn’t lessen everything the Spartans did this year but it does take a bit of the shine off. Emptying the Notebook: If the Lobos can t shoot, they have no shot

The Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. (Geoff Grammer/Albuquerque Journal) LUBBOCK, Texas Here are a few extra notes, stats, Tweets, videos, odds & ends and whatever else I could empty out of the old notebook after the Lobos’ 68-54 loss to the Nevada Wolf Pack on Thursday night in the Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University: A number to know: 42.9 UNM was 15-of-35 from the charity stripe on Thursday for a 42.9% clip. It’s the most misses in a game by a Lobos team in at least a decade. It’s hard enough to get to the line 20 times, but to miss 20 is historically bad (more on that below).

The Lobos will now head back to Texas, where they’ve relocated this season to practice and play. Emptying the Notebook: Maluach, again, a bright spot in Lobo loss

(Courtesy Boise State Athletics) Here are some extra notes, quotes, tweets, analysis, videos and whatever other odds & ends I could empty out of the old notebook after the UNM Lobos’ 77-53 road loss at Boise State on Monday night in Boise, Idaho: Maluach watch I’m not going make featuring Makuach Maluach a regular thing in this ETN column, though I did last week when he was chasing 1,000 points and now, after Monday’s blowout loss for the Lobos, he was really the only player worthy of breaking down a little more after the game.
