Town 1-3 Wigan Athletic Saturday, 7th Feb 2004 21:40
Yet another dismal home performance saw the Blues to a 3-1 defeat against upwardly mobile Wigan Athletic. Goals from Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington and Gary Teale put the Latics three-up before Shefki Kuqi netted a consolation for Town.
Tommy Miller recovered from his thigh injury and lined-up in the midfield with Jermaine Wright replacing Fabian Wilnis at full-back. Pablo Couñago and Chris Bart-Williams returned to the eleven after missing out at Coventry last week, Georges Santos dropping to the bench with the Blues moving back to 4-4-2.
Former Town loanee Alan Mahon made his debut for Wigan and received a warm welcome from the Town support when his name was read out prior to the kick-off.
Boss Paul Jewell has dismissed Hull City s head of football operations Adam Pearson’s claim that Town are paying £20,000 towards loan signing Jimmy Bullard’s £45,000 weekly wage. Writing in Hull’s programme for their 2-2 draw with Leeds on Tuesday, Pearson
Town 3-0 Sheffield United Saturday, 5th Feb 2011 17:40
Goals from Damien Delaney, David Norris and a stunning third from Connor Wickham saw the Blues to a 3-0 victory over nine-man Sheffield United. Delaney put Town in front with a header in a very poor first half with Norris adding the second after the break. Grant Leadbitter missed a penalty before Wickham brilliantly ran from his own half to seal the win, prior to Robert Kozluk and Lee Williamson receiving red cards within a minute during the closing stages.
Blues boss Paul Jewell named not just a side unchanged from the 2-1 win at Derby in midweek, but also the same bench. Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard made his home debut but there was no place in the squad for new signing Andy Drury. The Blades included former Blues Marcus Bent as their lone striker.
Ellington to Return From Scunthorpe
Monday, 7th Jan 2013 17:22
Scunthorpe United will not be extending Nathan Ellington’s loan having signed free agent Akpo Sodje until the end of the season.
Manager Brian Laws said: Now that we have Akpo in there we have no finances to maintain Nathan Ellington being here.
“He has been hit and miss and it has been a bit of a stop-start scenario. We cannot afford to carry on like that.”
Ellington’s spell was up after Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Shrewsbury, which was only the 31-year-old s second start since he moved to the League One club in November, a calf problem having hampered his time in Lincolnshire.
Town Linked With Fleetwood Striker Sunday, 1st Jan 2012 19:33
The Blues, Birmingham and West Ham are reported to be amongst the leading contenders to sign Fleetwood Town striker Jamie Vardy. The Cod Army are claimed to have turned down a £1 million offer for the 24-year-old, who has previously been mentioned in connection with Celtic and Huddersfield.
Sheffield-born Vardy, who has scored 15 goals in the Blue Square Bet Premier this season, first made an impression with local Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Stocksbridge Park Steels having been released by Sheffield Wednesday as a teenager. He won a trial with Crewe and other Football League clubs before turning down a short-term deal with Rotherham.
