Anniversaries can be one of the curses of a history-obsessed society. Amid uncomfortable political rumblings, evidenced already by controversy involving merely a portrait of a poet, the Secretary of State Brandon Lewis welcomed plans for a Centenary Forum and Historical Advisory Panel as part of the Government s plans to mark 100 years of Northern Ireland.
Jimmy Young threatened staff at Co-op stores in Midsomer Norton and Timsbury. The first incident, at about 9pm on July 21, saw Young enter the shop, produce a handgun and threaten a member of staff. He made off with a quantity of cash and made off in a car stolen from South Bristol. The second robbery occurred at about 7am on August 10 in Timsbury, where he threatened two employees in a similar fashion. He again fled with a quantity of cash, this time in a vehicle stolen from Bradley Stoke. Forensic evidence found at the scenes confirmed Young was linked to the two robberies and firearms officers successfully arrested the 46-year-old on in Pensford 10 days later.

An armed robber who pointed a handgun at shop staff when he raided two Co-op stores near Bristol has been jailed.
Mrs. Gearldine Fanning, age 78, of Hanceville, peacefully passed away Friday evening, December 11, 2020, at her residence.
She was born April 28, 1942, in Cullman County, a daughter of the late William Alexander Young and Dessie Mae Ballard Young.
Gearldine was preceded in death by her sisters Gwen Johns, Elaine Abbott, Nell Jo Jordan, Juanita Blanchard, Milo Lane, Naomi Gunterson and Betty Beasley; and brothers Jimmy Young, Paul Young, Earl Young and WA Young.
Gearldine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Billy Ray Fanning (“Cotton”) and their children; daughter, Sherry Fanning McClure and son in law, Dewayne McClure; and son, Ricky Allen Fanning “Rick”. She is also survived by her brother Doyle Young “DC” (Rose) and her grandchildren Kaylee Hasting, Dean Fanning, MaLeah Hunt, Meagan Yarbrough (Kevin), Warren Fanning, Nathan Fanning, Jonathan Fanning, LeAnn Miller and Josh McClure (Brianna). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Paxleigh, Lan
