January is known as National Mentoring Month and is dedicated to increasing quality mentoring across the country.
Jesse Sena, a Mentoring Collaborative Steering Committee member for the Pueblo Mentoring Collaborative (PMC), said the organization takes part in National Mentoring Month by hosting an annual community celebration. The celebration includes dinner, guest speakers and testimonials from mentors and their mentees.
Normally the celebration takes place in January, but with the current state restrictions on public gatherings due to COVID-19, the event has been postponed until late spring or early summer. But the collaborative is still searching for volunteer mentors.
United Way of Pueblo County Program Coordinator, Tanya Simental, noted that now more than ever, youths need extra support and human connection.
