PONTOTOC ⢠Voters in Pontotoc have elected Jimma Smith and Joe DiDonna to the city s board of aldermen in Tuesday s runoff primary election runoffs.
Unofficial results released Tuesday night show Smith defeating opponent Kevin Purdon in the race for the seat as Ward Two alderman by winning 67% of the total ballots cast, or 137 votes to Purdon s 67.Â
In the Ward Three, DiDonna defeated incumbent Dennis R. Simmons. Unofficial results have DiDonna with 68 votes, or 58%, and Simmons with 50 votes.
Tuesday night s runoff races concluded the 2021 municipal elections for the city of Pontotoc. No general election will be needed as the mayor and four alderman positions are now filled.
Pontotoc voters in Ward 2 and Ward 3 can go to the polls on Tuesday, April 27, and cast votes for aldermen in the Republican Municipal Primary runoff election. All votes will be cast inside the Pontotoc Community House located on North Main St. and polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The Ward 2 Republican runoff for alderman will include candidates Jimma Smith and Kevin Purdon. Smith led the voting in the April 6 first primary by 20 votes.
In the Ward 3 runoff, Republican candidates for alderman will include incumbent Dennis R. Simmons and challenger Joe DiDonna. DiDonna led Simmons by 13 votes in the first primary tally.

There are two business days left to qualify in the municipal elections with Friday, February 5, as the qualifying deadline.
Those qualifying thus in Ecru are incumbent Jeff Smith for mayor as a Republican. The alderman qualifying as Republicans are incumbent Dr. James Speck, incumbent Allison Shumaker, Joey Tharp and Jeannie Thompson. Qualifying as a democrat is incumbent Gloria High.
At Thaxton, no candadate has yet to qualify for the mayor race. Qualifying as Independents for aldermen thus far are Kim Hooker Gilliam and Grant Gooch.
In Pontotoc Incumbent Bob Peeples qualified as Republican for mayor and running against him is Sara Cornwell who is also a Republican.
