DTE, Consumers Energy support raising rooftop solar cap View Comments DTE Energy and Consumers Energy announced together Tuesday their support for raising but not eliminating  the cap on rooftop solar, a move that would increase the amount of solar power the utilities can purchase from consumers with rooftop solar panels. Since 2016, under a state energy law there has been a 1% cap on how much solar power DTE and Consumers may purchase based on the utilities  average peak load for the past five years. “We’re all-in on solar energy,” Brandon Hofmeister, senior vice president of governmental, regulatory and public affairs at Consumers Energy said in a statement Tuesday. “Together, we’re proposing a more inclusive solution to raise the cap on solar that prioritizes the needs of every customer in Michigan.
