Rangefinders will make their major debut at next week s PGA Championship, aimed at speeding the pace of play even as several top golfers worry it will do nothing or cause slowdowns instead.
The golf tech distance-measuring devices, using lasers or GPS systems, were approved last February for majors sanctioned by the PGA of America but remain banned for US PGA Tour rounds.

PGA Golf Exhibitions, in partnership with the PGA of America, announced today several initiatives regarding the annual PGA Show and year-round programs that will continuously connect the industry and drive forward golf business.
Those initiatives included:
Welcoming the golf industry back together Jan. 25-28, 2022, in Orlando, with a reimagining of the flagship PGA Show and sharing plans to enhance in-person business interactions, experiential product education and comprehensive golf merchandise sourcing.
The launch of regional events exclusively for PGA Professionals and invited buyers featuring a new format of scheduled buying appointments with curated exhibitors and opportunities for education, networking and meetings. First Look: The $500 Million Omni PGA Frisco Resort
The Dallas-based luxury hotel company anticipates a huge halo effect from its new venue at the future PGA headquarters.
Omni Hotels & Resorts has kicked off development of its latest resort, which will sit next to the PGA’s new headquarters in Frisco.
The PGA in 2018 announced plans to move from Palm Beach, Florida. Its new headquarters will anchor a 600-acre, mixed-use development that will also include three golf courses, a putting green, retail shops, and the $500 million Omni PGA Frisco. (Scroll down to click on an images gallery.)
Key players were on hand May 4 to officially break ground on the project. Peter Strebel, president of Omni Resorts, talked about how the deal came together and Omni parent company TRT Holdings’ Bob Rowling, founder, and his son, Blake Rowling, who serves as president.
“It’s where we are going to run all of our programs, we will have the state of the art education center,” said Jim Richerson, the president of PGA of America.
