Iconic Wellness A cannabis operation is proposed for 810 Broadus St. Kevin Beebe, representing the company Iconic Wellness, asked for an adult-use marijuana license. Beebe said the city would benefit from “major tax revenues,” and said his team intends to join city committees and boards, and that other businesses in town would benefit with the company bringing people to the area. Beebe said the company plans to break ground later this week, and intends to have 30 “local-hired” employees by the end of the year. Additionally, he said, by the end of the first year, the business plan expects 125 employees and, at the end of the five-year plan, more than 400.

At a virtual meeting of the full council on Wednesday evening, council members resolved to adopt the budget proposed by the authority s executive, in addition to its proposed capital budget of investments for the coming three years. The budget was supported by Conservative and Labour councillors, though Independent councillors either abstained or voted against the budget. The capital budget agreed on Wednesday includes plans for investment in Maryport funded by the £11.5m injection of Government financing into the town, as part of its Future High Streets Fund.
