New ruling executive revealed for Allerdale council
The new ruling executive of Allerdale council has been announced.
Leader Mike Johnson revealed the make-up of the executive at the authority’s annual general meeting on Wednesday.
Councillor Johnson’s deputy remains as Marion Fitzgerald, the executive member with responsibility for policy, governance and people resources.
John Cook has decided to stand down from the executive having previously held the tourism and leisure portfolio.
Councillor Johnson said: “Councillor Cook has done a tremendous job over the last two years and he has always done it with his usual good humour and broad smile.
Iconic Wellness
A cannabis operation is proposed for 810 Broadus St. Kevin Beebe, representing the company Iconic Wellness, asked for an adult-use marijuana license. Beebe said the city would benefit from “major tax revenues,” and said his team intends to join city committees and boards, and that other businesses in town would benefit with the company bringing people to the area.
Beebe said the company plans to break ground later this week, and intends to have 30 “local-hired” employees by the end of the year.
Additionally, he said, by the end of the first year, the business plan expects 125 employees and, at the end of the five-year plan, more than 400.

Budget agreed
Allerdale Borough Council has agreed its revenue budget for the next financial year after a heated debate on Wednesday night.
Councillors also agreed the capital budget for the next three years, which will mean investment throughout the borough.
The agreed budget means that the council can continue to offer key services to its residents, support the areaâs communities and help businesses recover from the coronavirus pandemic as the lockdown restrictions ease.
Like many other local authorities, councillors agreed to a £5 annual increase in council tax for a band D property (with proportionate increases for other bands).
