MACOMB Former sheriff s deputy, WIU trustee, and area politician Zack Stamp returned home this week to promote a book about his life and career. Stamp visited his hometown of Stronghurst on Wednesday and then made a Macomb appearance on Thursday.
Stamp was a McDonough County sheriff s deputy from 1975 to 1977. He left for a career in politics and helped with the campaigns of Senator Mary Lou Kent, Governor Jim Thompson, Senator Laura Kent Donahue, and Governor Jim Edgar.
The book, Things as I Remember Them, was started when Stamp served on Thompson s staff. He said the book is intended to pass along information to successive generations. We are all the sum of the past memories, Stamp wrote. It is the things that we remember that impact us going forward.
