Proposal could demolish Wonder Bar and Coliseum to make way for mixed-use high rise Development could start as soon as Sept. 1 on 18-story housing project near the Alliant Energy Center. April 13, 2021 5:00 PM Hannah Twietmeyer Updated: Photo by Patrick Stutz A development proposal by the McGrath Property Group would replace Coliseum Bar & Banquet and the Wonder Bar steakhouse with a $40 million, 18-story housing project. The proposal comes as one of the latest additions to transform the area surrounding the Alliant Energy Center into a “Destination District,” a collaborative effort between the city of Madison and Dane County. The proposed structure would create 291 apartment units, several floors dedicated to 12,500 square feet of commercial space and offices and a three-story parking garage.

Laketown Township approves millage hike

LAKETOWN TWP. In a split 4-1 vote, the Laketown Township board approved next year s township budget, nearly doubling the current operating millage for the township. The 0.45-mill increase from 0.55 mills to 1 mill amounts to about a $70 increase on the annual tax bill for the average homeowner in Laketown Township. The average taxable value of a Laketown Township home is about $156,000, according to figures presented by Township Manager Al Meshkin during the meeting.  Meshkin proposed the 1-mill tax rate to the board as part of the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget, which the board held a hearing for and approved Wednesday evening. The township s 2021-22 fiscal year begins April 1.

Bringing a motion before last week’s meeting of Longford Municipal District, Cllr Gerry Warnock explained that the deterioration of the hedgerow between the estate and the canal walk has turned into a “rat run” that has resulted in “an exponential growth in anti-social activity in the area at great annoyance and distress to some of the more vulnerable residents”.
