HOLLAND In early April, Jill DeJonge and Jennifer Manninen attended an event at Manna Church in Holland, hoping to engage in dialogue about the faith community. The event was titled Why Is The Church Filled With Hypocrites?
The event description called out to guests: If you are a skeptic or someone who has been hurt by the church, this evening is for you! No excuses, no minimizing or rationalizing, just the truth.
But DeJonge and Manninen describe the event differently instead of a constructive conversation, dialogue was often combative. It was more of a you tell me your argument, and I will try to refute that, which was not the night that we thought we were going to have, said Manninen, executive director of the Holland Openly Secular Alliance.
