It probably won’t surprise you to learn that members of the minority party in the Colorado General Assembly, not unlike members of the minority party in the U.S. Congress, have been known to use stalling as a tactic to impede the passage of legislation they don’t like. One tool facilitating this tactic in Colorado comes from Article V, Section 22, of the state constitution: “Every bill shall be read by title when introduced, and at length on two different days in each house, provided, however, any reading at length may be dispensed with upon unanimous consent of the members present.”

Jersey Shore Restaurant Week begins April 16 Jersey Shore Restaurant Week is back! The annual celebration of local dining kicks off Friday and runs through April 25, when more than 60 restaurants in Monmouth and Ocean counties will offer special three-course menus.  Jersey Shore Restaurant Week, which is sponsored by the Toms River-based Grunin Foundation, was founded 12 years ago by Jim Flynn of Brielle. The idea came to him on a drive to Martha s Vineyard, when Flynn spotted a sign in Connecticut advertising New Haven Restaurant Week. It occurred to me that the Shore should have a restaurant week because we had so many great restaurants here, the former sales and marketing executive said. We immediately bought the URL, and when I returned we formed a committee and began planning the first restaurant week, which we held in November 2009.”

COVID-19 coverage lauded in regional newspaper awards; 12 winners overall from NENPA

REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN 153 WATERBURY Journalists from the Republican-American, The Sunday Republican and rep-am.com were recognized with 12 awards, including four first-place finishes, in the annual New England Newspaper & Press Association’s Better Newspaper competition. The regional news organization held its annual conference and awards announcements virtually this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Awards were announced in stages Thursday and Friday during the online meeting of journalists from across New England. Among the first-place awards was a win in the timely Best Coronavirus Coverage. The Republican-American, Sunday Republican and rep-am.com offered judges a hefty collection of examples that included news, sports and feature stories, online graphics, a question-and-answer series, and daily email blasts and an online presentation that grouped all pandemic stories together, updated daily.
