Surat: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths arrested an assistant engineer of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 for approving drainage connections to an apartment building on Thursday.
The accused Jignesh Modi was nabbed red-handed from his Rander zone office.
The ACB team had laid a trap following a complaint from a plumbing contractor who had got work to provide drainage lines to 120 flats in an apartment building. The contractor had approached Modi as the work required approval of the civic body.
On receiving the application from the complainant, Modi demanded Rs 150 per flat which came to around Rs 18,000. After negotiations, Modi agreed for Rs 15,000.

ZANESVILLE - The first phase of coronavirus vaccinations is nearing completion in Muskingum County, and the second, phase 1b, could start as soon as next week.
But before any of the second group can be vaccinated, logistical hurdles need to be cleared. That will require patiences from the next group waiting to be vaccinated.
Genesis HealthCare System CEO Matt Perry said that Genesis has vaccinated 1,500 health care workers as of Tuesday, and Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department Medical Director Dr. Jack Butterfield said the health department has vaccinated another 270 people.
Ten hospitals around the state have been chosen to distribute the vaccines, including Genesis Hospital.

ZANESVILLE - Genesis Hospital administered its first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine shortly before noon on Tuesday.
The vaccines arrived at 9:30 Tuesday morning and after two hours to defrost Dr. Jignesh Modi, an infectious disease specialist with Genesis HealthCare, received the first dose.
Of the 975 doses the hospital received, 30 were expected to be administered on Tuesday. Today is a very exciting day for us, said Matt Perry, president and CEO of Genesis HealthCare System. You look at all these health care professionals lining up to get the vaccine, that should give our community the comfort that this is a very safe and effective thing that is really going to help us fight the pandemic.

The newly formed Coalition to Stop the Spread held an online meeting Thursday during which they discussed the importance of encouraging people in the community to tell their friends, family members and co-workers to wear masks, stay 6 feet apart and continue washing their hands frequently in an effort to slow down the fast-moving spread of the coronavirus now invading smaller communities.
