‘Abducted’ from Chattogram, college girl rescued in Dhaka, one arrested Star Digital Report Star Digital Report
Police rescued a college girl, who was abducted from Chattogram city s Akbar Shah area, from a residential hotel in Dhaka s Darussalam this morning.
The alleged kidnapper, Saidul Islam Sohel (26), hailing from Dhaka who is a gas cylinder mechanic by profession, was arrested, said police.
Md Jahir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Akbar Shah Police Station, said, The victim was introduced with Sohel on Facebook through a fake ID and they got into a relationship. On Saturday, the 15-year-old left her house saying that she was going to submit a class assignment but did not return home. In the meantime, a person called her father and asked him to send Tk five lakh to get back his daughter, said the OC.

The family once ruled 22 parganas or mahals in Faridpur and Barishal regions. The then British rulers of India later bestowed the family with the title Roy Bahadur Chowdhury .
All of the family members except Sukusar Roy Bahadur moved to Kolkata in India after the zamindari system was abolished in 1950, when the family lost all their estates, including the Baishroshi mansion, to the state.
Sukusar Roy Bahadur took his own life after the independence of Bangladesh. Amaresh Roy Chowdhury, a successor of the family, resides in Rajshahi.
Currently, only 30 acres of the property including the ponds and the structures remain in dilapidated state under the possession of the government. Influential locals over the years encroached on the remainder of the land that belonged to the compound of the mansion.

Case filed over college student’s rape in Ctg Star Online Report Star Online Report
An 18-year old college student was allegedly gang-raped in a flat at Chattogtam city s Akbar Shah area. During the incident, the rapists apparently played loud music to cover up the victim s screams for help.
The incident happened on December 11 evening at a building in East Firoj Shah Colony, said police.
Victim s mother filed a rape case with Akbar Shah Police Station on December 12.
Accused Rakibul Hasan Ariyan (23) and Mehedi Hasan Ashik Rabbani Babu (23) are on the run after the incident.
Quoting case statement, Jahir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akbar Shah Police Station, told The Daily Star, The victim and Ariyan were in a relationship but due to family issues she stopped communication with the youth.
AL leader’s son among two remanded for assaulting judge in Ctg Star Online Report Star Online Report
Two men, including the son of a local Awami League leader, were today placed on three-day remands each in a case filed over physically assaulting a judge in Chattogram.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohiuddin Murad passed the order today after police produced the accused Ali Akbar Iqbal, son of AL leader Hazi Iqbal of the city s Badar area, and his friend Hasan Ali Jishan before the court asking for four-day remands, said Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of CMP.
According to the case statement, on Wednesday evening, Ali Akbar Iqbal and Hasan Ali Jishan physically assaulted Chattogram s Joint District and Session Judge Jahir Hossain when he protested the duo s driving their motorcycle on the wrong side of the road in Patenga s Outer Ring Road area.
