The 22-year-old has encountered a new issue, as the Padres confirmed he has been placed on the injured list due to MLB s health and safety protocols.  Outfielder Jurickson Profar and shortstop Jorge Mateo were also placed on the list.  It s unknown if any of the players have tested positive for COVID-19, are showing symptoms of potential coronavirus infections, were exposed to the virus, or are dealing with negative reactions to vaccine shots. Players can also land on the list by violating certain health and safety regulations if they aren t fully vaccinated. 

Padres star Tatis tests positive for virus, on injured list

DENVER (AP) — San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 and was put on the injured list Tuesday, along with two teammates. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said he learned of Tatis’ positive test in a phone call late Monday night. Tingler said the 22-year-old shortstop was symptom-free at the moment, and there is no exact timetable for his return. “Naturally, you’re punched in the stomach a little bit,” Tingler said before a game at Colorado. “You first of all want to make sure, certainly for Tatis in this situation, is he feeling OK? And it was good to kind of see him over Facetime, and he’s feeling well. I mean he is crushed, he’s crushed inside, mentally, things like that.

Wil Myers Exited Padres vs Rockies in 3rd Inning Due to Positive COVID-19 Test

Padres manager Jayce Tingler told reporters the news on Myers, who is asymptomatic. In addition, first baseman Eric Hosmer left the game in the eighth due to contact tracing. Earlier Tuesday, the Padres announced that Fernando Tatis Jr., Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo were placed on the injured list due to MLB s health and safety protocols. Tingler told reporters pregame that Tatis tested positive for COVID-19 but is asymptomatic. Profar and Mateo were close contacts.
