Joining Tatis on the list were utility players Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo, the Padres announced before their game at Colorado.
San Diego was expected to make corresponding moves later in the day.
Tatis spent time on the injured list last month with inflammation in his left shoulder.

San Diego Padres star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. has dealt with multiple injury scares and setbacks this spring and is hitting only .240 early into the regular season. The 22-year-old has encountered a new issue, as the Padres confirmed he has been placed on the injured list due to MLB s health and safety protocols.
Outfielder Jurickson Profar and shortstop Jorge Mateo were also placed on the list.
It s unknown if any of the players have tested positive for COVID-19, are showing symptoms of potential coronavirus infections, were exposed to the virus, or are dealing with negative reactions to vaccine shots. Players can also land on the list by violating certain health and safety regulations if they aren t fully vaccinated.
DENVER (AP) â San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 and was put on the injured list Tuesday, along with two teammates.
Padres manager Jayce Tingler said he learned of Tatisâ positive test in a phone call late Monday night. Tingler said the 22-year-old shortstop was symptom-free at the moment, and there is no exact timetable for his return.
âNaturally, youâre punched in the stomach a little bit,â Tingler said before a game at Colorado. âYou first of all want to make sure, certainly for Tatis in this situation, is he feeling OK? And it was good to kind of see him over Facetime, and heâs feeling well. I mean he is crushed, heâs crushed inside, mentally, things like that.

San Diego Padres right fielder Wil Myers left his team s 8-1 road win over the Colorado Rockies in the third inning after testing positive for COVID-19.
Padres manager Jayce Tingler told reporters the news on Myers, who is asymptomatic. In addition, first baseman Eric Hosmer left the game in the eighth due to contact tracing.

Tingler told reporters pregame that Tatis tested positive for COVID-19 but is asymptomatic. Profar and Mateo were close contacts.
