This following the grizzly discovery of the remains of 215 children who died while at the former Kamloops Residential School in BC. “This horrific revelation is another reminder of the pain and suffering inflicted upon Indigenous Peoples by the residential school system. We must acknowledge and reflect upon this disgraceful chapter of Canadian history so that these unspeakable tragedies are never repeated,” said Mayor George Finch. All flags at South Huron properties will be flown at half-staff for 215 hours…1 hour for each child.

Article content SOUTH HURON – Councillors will decide at their next meeting whether or not to proceed with an estimated $12.3 million renovation and upgrade at the South Huron Rec Centre (SHRC). Councillors were presented with three options at a committee of the whole meeting May 25. After much discussion, committee members, who consist of South Huron council, voted 4-3 to recommend to council to proceed with the $12.3-million renovation. Council will vote at its June 7 regular meeting whether or not to approve the recommendation when they receive the draft minutes from the committee of the whole meeting.
