Burley on Holiday Monday, 1st Jul 2002 13:55
Town boss George Burley has gone on holiday in Monte Carlo as his players move on to the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook to continue their pre-season preparations.
Fitness coach Simon Thadani and coaches Tony Mowbray and Steve McCall are running the sessions at the school which impressed the players last season.
Then Marcus Stewart was particularly impressed with the culinary fare on offer: Every pre-season is hard work, but it is easier in nice surroundings at Holbrook. Very nice food too!
Town chairman David Sheepshanks said earlier in the summer that most close season transfers would take place in July. Any moves, other than those of Matteo Sereni and Titus Bramble, are unlikely to progress until Burley returns next week.
Wilnis Clears Air Monday, 1st Jul 2002 10:55
Fabian Wilnis says that he had clear-the-air talks with manager George Burley last week after returning to Portman Road for pre-season training. The Dutchman fell out with the Town boss after reacting angrily to being substituted in the UEFA Cup match in Helsingborg and was subsequently offered a free transfer.
Now it appears that the Dutchman s position at Portman Road is more secure after the two settled their differences: It was a very good chat and I certainly feel a lot happier about my future with Ipswich, he told the Colchester Gazette. We both said everything that s been bothering us and we ve agreed to wipe the slate clean and start again.
