Fort Bliss soldiers are victim, suspect in bar shooting; Army probe underway
UPDATE, July 26: Investigators on Monday identified two Fort Bliss soldiers as the pair of 26-year-olds involved in a weekend parking lot shooting that followed a fight on the patio at the Draft House Bar on George Dieter in east El Paso.
El Paso police said the victim, 26–year-old U.S. Army Sgt. Marcus Joseph Slaton, remained hospitalized with rifle wounds to both arms, but was uncooperative with detectives. His injuries were non-life threatening, the military said.
Authorities indicated that Slaton declined to press assault charges against the man who shot him; police said the attacker was also a 26-year-old Fort Bliss soldier assigned to the 1st Armored Division, but they didn t provide his name because he had since been released from custody after initially turning himself in to county sheriff s deputies.

Jose Campuzano is a well-known local Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach who was violently attacked outside the George Dieter bar strip in east El Paso. Police told KVIA News that witnesses stated Campuzano appeared intoxicated and stumbled into another man but the family says Campuzano attempted to stop a fight that was happening in the parking lot. He was then attacked by several individuals who pulled him to the ground and viciously beat him.
Jose s cousin Gabriela Campuzano told KTSM her cousin wasn t one to start fights, he jumped in to help the other people who were getting attacked. He was found unresponsive after being repeatedly stomped, and was intubated, and was listed in critical but stable condition per KVIA News.

EL PASO, Texas A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts coach was hospitalized in intensive care after being attacked and severely beaten outside an east El Paso bar, police confirmed Tuesday.
A photograph of Jose Campuzano in his hospital bed was posted to social media by the group Fit Fam El Paso.
