Vic Jones was the director of emergency services in Sumter at the time, and remembers the storm well. “All of the power was out in Sumter County, and the estimate was 80 percent of our roads and streets were blocked,” Jones said. “Most communication was interrupted as well.”

Obituaries » Michael L. Mudd Michael Lee Mudd, 65, of Warrenton, entered eternal peace with the Lord on December 1, 2020, at Fauquier Hospital. He was born December 27, 1954, in Fauquier County, to the late Emma Mudd (Scroggins) and Ned Mudd. Raised in Fauquier and living in Virginia his whole life, he enjoyed many avenues of hobbies. One of his passions was basketball, that lead him to play for Fauquier High Class of ’73 and become known for his “Harlem Form.” He went onto drive a freight truck for over 30 years, hauling a multitude of different materials. He visited quarries throughout Virginia and meeting many friends along the way. Always a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan, he loved drag racing, fishing, swimming laps, reading the Sunday paper and coaching/watching youth soccer.
