Atlanta Pride, Braves add to Pride Month events in June

Atlanta’s post-pandemic Pride Month calendar adds some old favorites and new events to celebrate a safety-cautious return to semi normalcy. The growing list of LGBTQ events which already slated Evening For Equality on June 17 and the Atlanta Pride Run & Walk on June 20 now includes an Atlanta Pride party at Georgia Aquarium, as well as Pride Night with the Atlanta Braves and with its Triple-A affiliate the Gwinnett Stripers. Calling 2020 a fundraising “bust,” Atlanta Pride on Thursday announced its attempt to start recouping with a fresh twist on a tried-and-true idea: an aquarium party on June 25. But Out Night at Georgia Aquarium is different in many ways than the raucous annual Pride Kickoff Party. Pride calls it a “softer, lighter and more exclusive version” of that event.

Pride Journey: Atlanta Almost everyone has been to Atlanta at some point or another. Whether for a conference or just passing through the Hartsfield-Jackson airport, the busiest airport in the world, Atlanta sees more than 100 million visitors per year. As the largest city in Georgia and one of the largest in the country by population, Atlanta has exploded to become an economic powerhouse. Skyscrapers are popping up in many areas of the city and many Fortune 500 companies have a presence in the region. Of course, the city is known for their hometown favorites: Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines and Turner Broadcasting System, which was founded by none other than Ted Turner, who’s name is everywhere in Atlanta. Turner has a downtown street named after him as well as 3 namesake restaurants – Ted’s Montana Grill – just in the Atlanta city limits.

This area faces imminent danger from an outbreak of coral disease termed stony coral tissue loss disease. Already in decline due to degraded water quality, climate change, and an expanding South Florida population, the reef has become the focus of a crisis intervention led by dozens of partners from federal, state, and local agencies; non-governmental organizations; universities; and members of the community.  SeaWorld is among those actively combatting this destructive disease in an ongoing effort to support and protect the environment. Historically, SeaWorld has established numerous resources and funds to help support environmental conservation.
