ZooTampa is leading the way to protect its animals against COVID-19.
TAMPA, Fla. - With three vaccines authorized by the FDA for emergency use in humans, getting some relief from the coronavirus pandemic seems within reach, but how does that translate to animals?
Dr. Cynthia Stringfield, senior vice president of animal health conservation and education at ZooTampa, says hope is around the corner. We re very excited here at ZooTampa that we have access to an animal COVID vaccine, she shared. This is a totally separate vaccine from the human vaccines.

A group of dogs are the first known animals in Washington state to test positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA).
The dogs were sampled as part of the COVID-19 and Pets Study that the University of Washington (UW) started in early 2020 to examine pets from households where humans have tested positive for COVID-19.
