After five years of educational and pastoral formation, eight laymen will advance to the Order of Deacon in service to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton on May 15 when they are ordained by Bishop David M. O’Connell in St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral in Trenton.
His entire family was infected several months ago.
So when the opportunity to get the vaccine and make it available on campus arose, he grabbed it.
“It is important to really combat COVID so we can get back to in-person instruction,” Marbach said Monday morning just minutes after receiving the first shot during an on-campus vaccination event. “Having recovered from it and knowing what a risk it was to family and friends, I wanted to mitigate the risk and get ahead of it.”
Twenty-two people took advantage of the vaccination clinic on campus Monday. It was organized with a local Walmart and through the help of state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli, who is a member of the Georgian Court University Board of Trustees.
Here are the N.J. colleges requiring students to be vaccinated
Updated May 09, 2021;
With the three COVID-19 vaccines now readily available for anyone over the age of 16, many universities in New Jersey are requiring their students to be vaccinated before the start of the 2021-22 school year.
Everyone in New Jersey age 16 and older became eligible for a vaccine on April 19 and many sites across the state are now accepting walk-ins for those who wish to get one, prompting several university officials to mandate vaccinations for students who live on campus or attend in-person classes.
The following universities have announced that they will require students who live on campus to be vaccinated:
LAKEWOOD – All Georgian Court University students living on campus in the fall will have to be fully vaccinated, according to university officials.
To help reach that goal, the university is holding a pop-up vaccination center on campus Monday, with University President Joe Marbach first in line to get the shot.
While the free vaccination program is aimed at Georgian Court students and staff, it is open to all residents, in and out of Lakewood.
The clinic offering comes as Lakewood, with a population of about 100,000, struggles to turn the corner on the coronavirus. The largest town in Ocean County, Lakewood is also the Shore leader with some 13,600 COVID cases in the last year. Its vaccination rate of 34% is among the lowest for communities with more than 10,000 residents, according to Gov. Phil Murphy s office, which released new data this week.

A scholarship for higher education is life-changing; just ask Laura Burns, a teacher in Hazlet who wanted to continue graduate work to reach her goal in school administration.
As a middle school language arts and social studies teacher, Burns dreamed of taking the next step, but realized the financial hurdles to make it happen would be an obstacle. She applied to the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce (EMACC) Educational Foundation for its annual scholarship and the rest is history, or her story, according to a press release.
Burns was one of 12 recipients of an EMACC scholarship in 2019. She was awarded a $2,000 scholarship, which is designed to help non-traditional students. Burns knew what she wanted to do and she needed a master’s degree to accomplish her goals.
