CARLISLE, Pa. If you stop by GQ Barbershop from May 26 until May 30, the money spent on your cut will be used for a good cause.
That s because the business will be directly donating the money they make to the families of barbers Kendell Cook and Anthony White who were victims of a shooting last Saturday.
“It kind of came about to just do the haircuts and donate all the proceeds to the families just because that’s what they do. You know, that’s what we do. we cut. so that’s the best way we know how to make a big impact, said Karissa Budde, who works at GQ Barbershop.
Congress made PPP more flexible, but businesses say it’s not enough
Congress has made the Paycheck Protection Program more flexible and given priority to the smallest, hardest-hit businesses, but the long-awaited second round of loans will still serve as little more than a stopgap as the pandemic rages on.
Retail businesses like Georgie Lou’s Retro Candy store in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, will likely receive the same amount of money they did in the spring which lasted Georgie Lou’s only a few months, leaving owner Stephanie Patterson Gilbert to piece things together on her own ever since.
“It’s helpful, but none of this is going to save a business at the end of the day,” said Gilbert.

CARLISLE, Pa. An initiative in Cumberland County seeks to support nonprofits and frontline workers while giving a boost to small businesses.
Small business association Destination Carlisle launched the S.O.S.: Save Our Smalls program, which will provide income to businesses to offer gift cards or products to local charities.
The program comes at a crucial time for small businesses. Shopping and eating out are usually down after the holidays, but many businesses were already struggling after months of lockdowns and restrictions. In addition federal aid has been held up and indoor dining remains closed in Pennsylvania.

The cold, winter months are traditionally a slow time for small businesses.
People stay inside, they avoid perusing the downtown shops in frigid temperatures and they’re a little less likely to open their wallets after a big Christmas splurge, said Destination Carlisle president Stephanie Patterson Gilbert.
