India: Universities in Delhi lose leading teachers to Covid-19

Covid-19 has struck the world of academia in Delhi, resulting in the death of several leading personalities in Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia in recent days.
They include about 35 teachers in DU, five in Jamia Millia Islamia and two in JNU. Besides these, many other teachers from DU’s constituent colleges have also succumbed to Covid.
Vinay Gupta, the former dean of examinations at DU lost the battle against Covid-19, even as his father succumbed to it, according to a news report. Veena Kukreja, 65, head of the political science department, also passed away, though she was discharged from an ICU after her health improved.

Aligarh Muslim University has lost more than three dozen present and former teachers and other employees, including at least one doctor from the campus hospital, to Covid in the past one month.
All of them – including the former teachers and the 16 serving teachers who died lived on the campus and its neighbourhood, university sources said.
University honorary secretary Najmul Islam said one possible reason for the high toll could be the inflow of Covid patients at the on-campus J.N. Medical College and Hospital, the principal healthcare facility for Aligarh and surrounding districts.

Jamia Hamdard has released the official admission notifications for the Distance Education programme in BBA, BCA, B.Com. All the UG programmes as mentioned have been approved by the UGC. The candidates seeking admission to the University can apply online or offline by 30 April, 2021.
As per the eligibility criteria, the candidate must have completed the class 12th from a recognised State Board of Secondary Education or a Government recognised Madrasa Board to apply. There is no age criteria/bar for taking up admission in these courses.
